Event Synopsis Sustainable Urban Planning & Design in the Age of of Data Science & AI

High density cities face urgent societal challenges, from intensifying climate risks to socio-economic inequity, amidst rapid digital transformation. Dr Stephen Law presents an evidence-based approach to sustainable urban design that leverages theory-informed and analytics-driven evidence at each stageof an iterative planning process: from knowledge discovery to imagination.

Drawing on case studies across three themes, (i) urban form and mobility, (ii) health and well-being, and (iii) urban climate resilience and equity, he demonstrates how evidence-driven insights can inform planning decisions for practitioners and policy makers. Central to this framework is the argument that AI and data science can assist human experts, providing the evidence required to empower practitioners in designing more just, healthy, and liveable cities.
