Event Synopsis

 

HKIUD and SIP will jointly host a live webinar named: “The Hong Kong – Singapore Connection“ to discuss on the new urban mobility future trends around the globe and in Singapore region together with a MOU Signing with Singapore Institute of Planners.

During the presentation, Mr.Barry Wilson will discuss how to make more productive use of the large amount of space dedicated to road vehicles. Mr. Tan Shee Tiong will discuss with us the new advances in technology for new mobility systems and the impact to future urban development, how can this vision be achieved and whether it is a good approach for Singapore’s future urban development, do not miss the talk!

Topic: Unleashing Urban Street Potential

Mr. Barry Wilson is currently the President of the Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design, a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects and Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Architecture, University of Hong Kong. He is appointed to a number of international arbitration courts and advisory bodies in both China and Hong Kong whilst his consultancy practice, Barry Wilson Project Initiatives has been tackling urbanisation issues in the region for over 25 years.

During his presentation – “Unleashing Urban Street Potential”, Barry will discuss how to make more productive use of the large amount of space dedicated to road vehicles.

Speaker: Mr Tan Shee Tiong
Topic: The Future is Here

Mr. Tan Shee Tiong is a chartered architect and chartered town planner trained in Singapore and London with over 45 years of working experience in Singapore, London and Shanghai. Mr. Tan has trained over 150 groups of government officials from China, and has won several international competitions on urban design and master plan in China. He was the president of Singapore Institute of Planners 2001-2003, and was instrumental in the setting up of SIP Planning Awards in 2008, the organization of the UN Climate Change Senior Policy Conference and the Commonwealth Association of Planners Conference in Singapore in 2009 and 2014 respectively. He received Singapore Golden Jubilee Design Award from the government and Planning Pioneers Award from SIP in 2015, and was featured as a distinguished alumni in the book “NUS115: Celebrating 115 years of shaping the future”, published in 2021. He is currently teaching in the MAUD and MUP post-graduate programs at NUS.

Mr. Tan will present “The Future is Here” and discuss the trends of car-free, car-lite and autonomous cars, and the advances in technology that have enabled cities to envision and realize new mobility systems. He will challenge us to think about the future of urban mobility in the context of post-pandemic Singapore, and question ourselves “Are we ready for the change?”, do not miss the talk!
