Event Synopsis

Dear SIP Members

The organiser is pleased to extend invitation to SIP members to participate in the upcoming ASEAN-Japan City &Architecture Forum (AJCAF) 2019 with the theme : “Connecting Cities and People through Planning and Design”, organized by Asia City Architecture Forum (ACAF) Japan, Delphi Lab Japan, URBAN+ Institute Indonesia, and Anabata Indonesia, IAI West Java and hosted by the West Java Provincial Government of Indonesia.

The Forum will be taking place in Bandung City, West Java Province, Indonesia,on 31st October – 1st November and it will feature the main speaker Fumihiko Maki (master architect and city designer), and also Ridwan Kamil – Governor of West Java Province who is also an architect/urban designer.

Why ASEAN? We see that there are some parallel issues, concerns, challenges that can be drawn and discussed among the participants from various cities and backgrounds.

Why Bandung / West Java? Governor Ridwan is very committed to promoting one of the highest growth and most populated province in Indonesia, be it in infrastructure driven projects and new town making as well as creating livable cities. Governor Ridwan is open for recommendations and input for that.

The forum will discuss 2 streams of topics: “City and New Town” on the first day and “City and Fabric” on the second day.

  • For the Urban Planning and Design stream on the first day, we will discuss Infrastructure-Driven Urban Development and “New Town as Place for People and Strategy of Expansion.
  • For the Architecture in The City stream on the second day, we would like to discuss City and Fabric, about how architecture can play a better role in shaping a place for people in the city.

The forum seeks the benefit of inviting several case studies in ASEAN cities/projects to discuss success (and failure) stories that may inform the participants in connecting these two areas together.
