Event Synopsis A Tale of 2 (Digital) Cities – Lessons from  Hong Kong’s Northern Metropolis and Singapore’s Punggol Digital District

As Asia accelerates into the digital era, strategic urban planning and innovation-driven infrastructure are reshaping the region’s economic landscape. This joint seminar brings together two flagship mega-projects involved in this transformation:  Hong Kong’s Northern Metropolis.  and Singapore’s Punggol Digital District (PDD) by Jurong Town Corporation (JTC)

Spanning 30,000 hectares, Hong Kong’s Northern Metropolis represents a strategic vision to build a vibrant second economic engine by positioning as a world-class Innovation and Technology (I&T) hub seamlessly integrated with high-quality living. Anchored by the San Tin Technopole tech zone and a massive University Town to drive talent and academic-industry synergy, the development leverages deep integration with Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area. Upon completion, it aims to accommodate 2.5 million residents and generate 650,000 jobs—including 150,000 in I&T—while balancing growth with sustainability through cross-boundary transport links and expansive wetland conservation parks.

Complementing this vision, Singapore’s Punggol Digital District covers 50 hectares as a master-planned smart and sustainable business park, and was awarded Silver in the 9th SIP Planning Awards, for Excellence in Planning in the >5000 HA Category. PDD integrates high-tech industries—such as AI, cybersecurity, and robotics—with academia by co-locating with the Singapore Institute of Technology. Powered by an Open Digital Platform and eco-friendly urban design, operating as a vibrant living lab for digital innovation while fostering community integration.

Join us in learning how these two pioneering developments show how world-class infrastructure, industry-academic collaboration, and sustainable urban design can drive regional competitiveness and define the future of smart, technology-led cities.

There will be a post event tour of PDD after the seminar. Participants who are interest to join, can sign up with SIP on the day itself.
